Ulta Beauty

Pave Global 2024 Student Design Competition

CONTEXT

For this project, we participated in the PAVE Global student design competition. We were tasked with redesigning an Ulta store to create a more engaging and efficient shopping experience. The design was informed by precedent studies of beauty stores and our own observations of Ulta's current layout challenges. We identified key issues such as overwhelming visual clutter, disorganized product displays, and a lack of centralized areas for customer-employee interaction.

The Process

We found when entering Ulta, many customers feel overwhelmed due to the store’s disorganized and cluttered layout. We drew inspiration from a previous studio of Goodles in Santa Monica, CA - a quaint yet inviting home goods store. The store’s layout is clean and has a gallery like atmosphere that allows it’s merchandise to shine. The juxtaposition of a luxurious experience plus accessible pricing, offered a great starting point for how I would transform Ulta.
